About Lifeline
Lifeline is a federal benefit that has helped low-income Americans afford phone service since 1985. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) sets the rules and the Universal Service Administrative Company (USAC) runs the program day to day. It is paid for by the Universal Service Fund, which phone companies contribute to, not by a new tax on you.
Lifeline provides up to $9.25 a month toward phone or internet service, or up to $34.25 on qualifying Tribal lands. FreeCall Wireless applies that benefit to your plan so you pay nothing for unlimited talk and text and 10 GB of high-speed data, well above the FCC minimum of 4.5 GB of data or 1,000 minutes each month.

Why FreeCall Wireless
Many Lifeline providers look alike online. We focus on the details that matter after you sign up: real people who answer at (918) 931-0991, an office in Tulsa you can visit, honest device pricing and help with your yearly recertification.
Yes. People often call it the "Obama phone," but Lifeline started under President Reagan in 1985 and expanded to wireless phones in 2008. Today it helps millions of households each year. It is a legitimate federal program, and the rules are published by the FCC in the Code of Federal Regulations.
Most customers choose a free 5G Android smartphone such as the Samsung Galaxy A16 5G or moto g 5G. iPhone models like the iPhone 13 and iPhone SE are offered free in select states or with a small one-time co-pay. If you prefer something simple, a 4G flip phone with big buttons is free too. You can also bring your own phone and just get a free SIM card.
Every plan includes unlimited talk and text and monthly high-speed data, plus hotspot so you can share data with a laptop or tablet. Plans meet the FCC minimum service standards. Need more? You can add affordable top-ups at any time. See the Lifeline plans page for details.
Lifeline covers one line of service per household. Some customers add a discounted tablet to their account so the whole family can share the connection through the phone's hotspot. Read about the Free Government Phone and Tablet Combo.
Federal rules require every provider to confirm your identity and eligibility through the National Verifier or your state's process, and to check that no one else in your household already has Lifeline. This protects the program from fraud. We keep your information private and use it only to enroll you.
If your benefits are confirmed automatically, you are approved within minutes. If more proof is needed, you can upload a photo of a document from your phone. Once approved, we ship your phone with the SIM already installed. Our team in Tulsa, Oklahoma can help you activate it over the phone.
All Lifeline providers receive the same federal benefit. The difference is the phone selection, the network, the data you get and the help you receive. We publish our device offers clearly, include hotspot, and keep a real office with real people. You can switch to us any time you like.
Anyone who meets the program or income rules can apply. Seniors often qualify through SSI or Medicaid, veterans through the Veterans Pension, and students through SNAP, Medicaid or their household income. There is no age limit, but applicants must be adults or emancipated minors.
Questions
A Free Government Phone is a cell phone and monthly wireless plan provided at no cost to eligible households through Lifeline, a federal program created in 1985 and run by the FCC. The government pays part of the monthly bill directly to a provider like FreeCall Wireless, so qualifying customers pay $0 for their talk, text and data.
You qualify if anyone in your household gets SNAP, Medicaid, SSI, Federal Public Housing Assistance or the Veterans Pension and Survivors Benefit, or if your household income is at or below 135% of the federal poverty guidelines ($21,546 a year for one person in 2026). Tribal programs also count on qualifying Tribal lands. See the full eligibility rules.
